The Bichon Frisé is thought to have originated from the Mediterranean and is a true star in the dog world but then I am completely biased and totally besotted with this fabulous breed. They are beautiful to look at with their wonderful coat and big black eyes. This little dog likes to be the centre of attention and who can blame them as they were bred purely as a companion dog and what a companion they make. Did you know the Bichon Frisé descends from the Barbet, or Water Spaniel, which became known as the Barbichon (from the French 'Barbiche' meaning beard) shortened to Bichon.

Other breeds related to the Bichon: Maltese, Bolognese, Havanese & Lowchen.

Daily grooming (brushing) is essential in order to keep the coat tangle free. The Bichon is high maintenance and must be groomed every four to six weeks. If you own a Bichon, top tip: never ever wash without a full and proper brush with a slicker brush removing all tangles first, following this simple rule will save you and your Bichon a lot of bother!
